Full Program of Sold-out Ruisrock Released
In addition to music, the festival program shatters prejudice with its new Bubble tent and gives festivalgoers the chance to enjoy crickets and Finnish berries.
The full program of Ruisrock, held in Turku on 6–8 July, 2018, is ready. The festival will feature Canadian rap artist and producer PartyNextDoor who has collaborated with the likes of Major Lazer and Big Sean. Another newly announced international performer is the American singer-songwriter Kali Uchis. The musician, who has collaborated with e.g. Tyler, the Creator, released her debut studio album “Isolation” in the spring, winning rave reviews from both critics and fans.
Plenty of Finnish artists have also been added to the list of performers. The festival will feature Aleksanteri Hakaniemi, Ruusut, Lxandra, DJ Ibusal, Yona, Adi L Hasla, Karina, Molly, Teflon Brothers, Vilma Alina, LCMDF DJ-set, Anne Lainto & Ida Karimaa, and D.R.E.A.M X Yeboyah X F. Among the performers are Turku Rock Academy’s bands Atomic Annie and Sacred Dimension and, in cooperation with Turku Rock Academy, Uusimusta. Tavastia’s Saturday Disco & Friends will get everyone dancing with its guests Tuuttimörkö, Mio, Sofa, F, Pesso, and Jaakko Aukusti.
New Bubble Tent Takes a Stand
A brand-new program element in the festival area is the barrier-breaking tent named Bubble (“Kupla”) where opinion leaders and artists can get together to discuss burning contemporary issues.
The Brown Girls (“Ruskeat Tytöt”) media will take over the Bubble in the name of music and feminism. The audience can enjoy writer Maryan Abdulkarim's talk show, featuring guests such as Cledos and Silvana Imam, who also perform live at the festival. Yle Kioski’s hugely popular All X Panel will also visit the Bubble to straighten out some of the prejudices encountered by various marginal groups. In addition, the program features Radical Cross-stitch, the Nuclear Winter Garden club, and Granny Disco.
“The Bubble will be bubbling with social phenomena, interesting people, and activities. The aim is to give festivalgoers food for thought and things to do without being too serious about it,” says Ruisrock Producer Ilona Numminen.
Festival Foods are All About Being Fresh and Refreshing
The festival’s restaurants serve fresh ingredients and summery flavors. A market square vendor will sell strawberries and peas, and crickets will also be available for the first time. The pizza trend is visible at the festival, with premium pizza restaurants such as Dennis, Pizzarium, and Wood & Fire taking part. Others investing in ingredients and authenticity are the trending restaurant Karu Izakaya from Turku and Levant, representing Middle Eastern cuisine. Subway® serves high-quality, fresh fast food at its stall, with box seats on the roof that provide a great view toward the legendary Rantalava stage.
The range of beverages served at the festival is larger than ever. Drinks include cocktails, wines, mojitos, gin, and special beers. In addition to KOFF, a regular at the festival, other beer brands include Brooklyn Brewery and Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc. Beer & Beer bar and Bar Brooklyn serve a wide range of craft and special beers from hoppy to sour. All vendors also sell non-alcoholic Crisp beer and Coca-Cola beverages.
